Today's entry is not really cat related, unless you count the fact that cats like salmon.
Today's entry highlights the Coquitlam salmon sculpture that I have sponsored. It is one of twelve that will be put up around Coquitlam, and each one is individually painted. The artist that painted this sculpture is Flavia Chan and the sculpture will eventually be put up at Como Lake Park in Coquitlam. When I met Flavia at the unveiling ceremony, I gave her a copy of Cuddles the Cat Goes to the Dentist - and the book can be seen in the picture.

Butler Toothbrushes and Socks the Cat
Today I'm highlighting two things. First - the summer promotional flyer from Butler/ Sunstar toothbrushes is out. When dental offices buy 6 dozen children's toothbrushes they'll get a free copy of my Cuddles the Cat Goes to the Dentist Book. That's a really nice promotion.
And then, just for fun, I'm posting cute pictures of "Socks" the cat. Enjoy.

Today I visited the "Tooth Trolley program" at Vancouver Community College which is a great service and program for the community. Disadvantaged children and children in need of dental assessments and treatment are brought to Vancouver Community College on the "Tooth Trolley" bus where the dental assisting students and dental hygiene students as well as some staff and volunteers help assess and educate the children about dental care. Besides a basic exam, the children will receive some additional treatment at the clinic including a dental polish, fluoride application and dental care instructions. In some circumstances, an available dentist may provide some dental work. If the parents attend with their children, then the parents are also given oral health instructions and advice. The children and their parents receive a care package to take home including a toothbrush and a prize, and now a copy of Cuddles the Cat Goes to the Dentist. Some of the students signed a wonderful poster for me which I will put on display. As you can tell from the poster, this year marks the 10th anniversary of the Tooth Trolley program at V.C.C.

The recent big news is that Vancouver Community College will be distributing 250 copies of Cuddles the Cat Goes to the Dentist to the children who attend their "Tooth Trolley" program hosted by the dental department at Vancouver Community College. On top of that - the Butler toothbrush company plans to purchase 600 copies of the book to distribute as a promotional item.
In celebration of those 2 pieces of news, I give you a couple more cute kitten pictures and another coloring page....

I visited Over the Rainbow Preschool in Coquitlam today to read 25 pre-school children the story of Cuddles the Cat Goes to the Dentist and to teach them about their teeth and dental care. Everyone seemed to enjoy it and I enjoyed listening to their "stories" that were supposed to have been "questions". Everyone in the preschool class - actually 2 classes - got a toothbrush and a prize - just like Bob did at the end of the book.

I am starting this blog a bit late since the book was actually published in September 2015. However I am going to attempt to catch up by mentioning events that happened between the book being published and the present as I add new entries. For example I did get a book write-up in a dental journal as well as a video interview with the Canadian Dental Association. There were a couple of local newspapers that highlighted Cuddles the Cat Goes to the Dentist.
For now I am going to mention that the website I have set up for the book can be found at:
www.cuddlesthecat.ca
or also at:
www.cuddlesthecatbook.com
And the website for the book's publisher is at:
https://www.promontorypress.com/
I have made several coloring pages from the illustrations in the book, which were provided by a patient of mine. Angela Lugrin (Geary) did a great job with the colorful illustrations of Cuddles and Bob. I have black and white versions of many of the illustrations that would make fun coloring pages for teachers, parents, and dental offices. I'll insert one example for now and if it works well, I'll post more coloring pages in future blogs.

Cuddles the Cat Goes to the Dentist was first written over 12 years ago. However it was published and printed and made available for sale on Amazon.com, and Chapters/ Indigo by Promontory Press in September 2015. It's a two-in-one book that combines a fun rhyming story about two cats who visit the dentist in the first half of the book with dental advice and answers to dental questions for parents and teachers in the second half of the book. Both parts of the book were written by me - Sean Kelly - a practicing dentist with over 20 years of dental experience.
